Our People

Our People

At our core, a sustainable future relies on our people. We're committed to fostering a positive and well-connected work environment. Upgrading our telecommunications - with Telstra for the site and Starlink for the camp - ensures employees have reliable phone reception to stay in touch with loved ones. To support work-life balance, we fly employees out on the morning of their final shift and still pay them for the full day, allowing them to maximize their time at home. We're also embracing technology to streamline communication and feedback collection, expanding the use of QR codes to gather employee input while reducing unnecessary paper waste. Finally, initiatives like the Austral Social Club promote a sense of community and belonging, fostering a culture of sustainability through shared experiences.

Current employee-centric initiatives include:

  • Upgrade of site telecommunications equipment (Telstra for site and Starlink for camp), ensuring employees have adequate phone reception to contact friends and family.
  • Flying employees out on the morning of their final shift while still paying them a full day.
  • Broadening the use of QR codes for employee feedback.
  • Austral Social Club

 Austral employee-led Environmental Initiatives:

  • Collection of recyclable cans and bottles at Mt Isa Containers for change, with proceeds feeding into the Austral Social Club.

Our Camp

Austral Resources prides itself on providing exceptional onsite camp accommodation and facilities for our employees. At our Lady Annie Operations site, we offer a fully catered dry mess and camp that can accommodate up to 200 personnel. But it's not just the physical amenities that make our camp stand out. Staff and visiting contractors consistently praise the welcoming and supportive community atmosphere that has been cultivated here. One employee even described our camp as "a hidden oasis," highlighting the unique and positive experience it offers.

The camp consists of:

  • Wet mess and recreations rooms (including TVs, dart board, ping pong tables and pool table);
  • Computer recreational room;
  • Pool and fully equipped gym;
  • 3 separate laundries (with both washing machines and dryers); and
  • En-suite single and double rooms with TV, cupboard, fridge and desk.
  • Looking towards the wet mess and recreational room.
  • The pool area.

Our Social Club

Austral Resources is proud to offer our employees a vibrant and engaging onsite social club. The club is an Incorporated club (with its own constitution). From sporting leagues and game nights to themed parties and cultural celebrations, our social club offers something for everyone. Our inclusive environment fosters a strong sense of community and helps to enhance the overall quality of life for our employees.

The purpose-built clubhouse provides a dedicated space for a wide range of recreational activities and social events. This fosters camaraderie, relaxation, and overall well-being among our employees. The social club manages the sale of alcohol and snacks, with proceeds reinvested in club improvements. This includes purchasing new and approved gym equipment, upgrading bar facilities, and funding social gatherings.

Beyond recreational activities, the club actively promotes a healthy work-life balance and supports mental health initiatives. By organizing special events like Christmas and New Year's celebrations, the club creates a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, fostering a strong sense of community and providing a 'home away from home' for our employees.

Lifestyle & Roster

Although we are only a small operation, Austral Resources prides itself on its willingness to work with our team to offer them a sustainable lifestyle and flexible roster system.

By offering a flexible roster with an even time work-life / home-life this provides an opportunity to spend an extended amount of time with friends and family when compared to other industries.

This roster doesn’t just value healthy family balance but also a wide range of other opportunities for all employees, this includes having more time to focus on your career growth and development by furthering education, reaching your full potential, and achieving personal and professional goals.

Respect & Equality

Austral Resources is committed to fostering a workplace culture that values respect, equality, and diversity. We recognize that our success is driven by our people, and we believe that everyone should feel safe, valued, and empowered to be themselves.

Our diverse workforce embraces individuals from all backgrounds, and we encourage open communication and collaboration. We have implemented strong policies and procedures to prevent and address bullying, discrimination, and inappropriate sexual conduct, ensuring that all employees feel safe and respected.

Our above-industry-average female participation among our workforce, principal contractors, and supply partners demonstrates our commitment to gender equality. By promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity, we strive to create a positive and supportive work environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best.
